Swine Flu

I am just getting over some weird upper respiratory thing, but will write soon about my take on the swine flu.
Also have been thinking about how we are at the mercy of insurance companies...something else I want to discuss.
Stay tuned...I've got lots on my mind!!

Spring gets skipped!

Nice weather just in time for Earth Day (yesterday) and Arbor Day(today). Tomorrow is going to be summer weather in the 80's. Now I am not complaining...(well I am, a little, mostly because my legs are just not ready for shorts....a pasty gray color that one can only obtain from a winter in the Northeast). OK so what's the deal?...every year we go straight from Winter coats to shorts. What happened to Spring? It has become elusive.

I want to savor the Spring; marvel as my environment turns from gray and dismal to a cacophony of colors and vibrance. I'm not ready for summer. I love the summer....but part of the joy of spring is that it ALL lays before us; spring in all it's glory, followed by summer vacation, warm nights and sprinklers showering dry lawns, sprinkled with the laughter of children.

I guess this is all a metaphor of sorts. Life moves too fast. My poodle is turning gray, my boy is becoming a man, and I too am changing at break neck speed. But I am wiser too. And in my wisdom I realize that we have to savor each season, each phase, each era. Now is all we have....the precious present. Seize the moment. Enjoy. It's going to be 86 degrees tomorrow...I better go tan those legs.;-)

Back in the Garden Again!!

Great day to get in the garden and finish cleaning up...plant some new stuff. It's going to rain tomorrow so it was actually the perfect day for that. Some of the work, however, was getting a little too labor intensive for me, even with the help of my son. So I decided to check out The Garden Path on ThreeVillagePeople.com I love having everything in one spot when I need anything. So while I was at it, I decided to take it one step further and look for someone to clean out my Gutters. Pane Free Window Cleaning actually clean gutters as well...they are on my list to call Monday.
Have a happy week-end!!

Sunny Day - Power on!!

I woke up with the sun streaming in through the skylight in my bedroom. I lay there thinking in anticipation of being out in the sun. I didn't want to waste one moment inside. But then as I lay there, aches and pains from my week attempting to get back into a workout routine began creeping up on me.

Hmmm
......suddenly I thought....it's Friday...time to see Dr. Henri of Power On Chiropractic and Nutrition That was definitely worth going indoors for. I've been seeing Dr. Henri since October when I was suffering from asthmatic bronchitis, something I battle with every winter from October straight through to April.

I have seen such an improvement in my health since I started getting adjusted, that although I have always believed in the power of chiropractic, I have never had such dramatic results before; even my chronic insomnia has improved. But it is not just the long term effects that have me hooked. The immediate pain relief is such an incentive, I actually look forward to keeping my appointments.

So now I am less achy and all ready to enjoy the sun and Power On!!

Hope for the future....

I think back to when house prices were soaring, jobs were abundant, and the world seemed to be riding high. Little did we all know that behind the scenes there were situations that would lead to our collective unraveling. Who would have believed that a relatively safe investment in a boring old insurance company would end up being a disastrous choice or that our banking system would be in trouble, our planet in peril? So many variables that we never considered reared their ugly heads. How could we have known? How could we have not known? Scheming greed, glutinous hunger for power and money were covertly fueling a scenario that would take us to the pinnacle of crisis.

But with crisis also comes opportunity. So now, while spirits are down, and people are reviewing these occurrences feeling jaded and discouraged, I wonder if the opposite will hold true. It is my hope that this is the reality; that behind the scenes people are trying to live with greater integrity and honor. Perhaps people are taking stock of what they do have; family, health, faith, a deepened sense of community, and finding out what it is that they truly value. It could very well be possible that we are all learning to feel more compassion for one another, to be more charitable, to consider the planet above our wallets. An underground movement towards good....towards peace.....if it happened one way...then the opposite can be true as well......this is my hope.

Shopping is so sweet....at Sweetleaf Boutique

A gray, damp, rainy Saturday.....I actually would have liked to hunker down at home, but I had Easter errands to run; last minute gifts for the nieces:) Starbucks in East Setauket was my destination. As always, I scan my mental to do list for other errands that need tending to in that neck of the woods. I had a book on hold at the library that was ready for pick-up and I wanted to stop in at the new location for the SweetLeaf Boutique for a top to wear with a suit for Easter dinner in Manhattan. Well I stepped into Sweetleaf Boutique greeted by Kelly, one of the family members who owns and runs this little gem nestled in the Mario's shopping center. (OK...let's not get into the whole Mario's thing....that's another post....the bar at Mario's is an oasis where delicious foods magically appear on the bar at just about midnight when I am definitely due for a snack. Yes, I love Mario's)
Anyway, I just wanted to take a quick look for a small purchase. I don't quite exactly know what happened, but suddenly I was in a fitting room with a scrumptious array of tops, dresses, jeans, and capris. Kelly picked out things I would have never chosen, that were flattering and affordable. I can't actually remember ever having so much fun shopping. Let's face it, shopping can be depressing......or, in this case exhilarating!!! Two hours flew by (by now Kelly had to leave and I was on to pocketbooks with the help of Livia). By the time I left I walked out with a kicky echo friendly, brown reusable bag, Sweetleaf mints, a dress, capris that looked great without being a torture chamber, and a cute floral and blue purse..... all for the price of what just the dress might have cost. Who knew this great little shop was right at my fingertips all along? I am going back next week, and bringing a friend or two......Sweetleaf Boutique is too good to keep to myself.

Networking Night

What a wonderful night we had on April 2nd at the Three Village Inn. I don't know what it is, perhaps it is the beautifully visual website that local graphic artist Wendy Martin has built, but threevillagepeople.com attracts particularly nice people. We always have a fun, warm group and it feels more like a night out socializing than "working"....but it's always very productive as well Looking forward to the next one on May 12th
(also looking forward to some WARMER weather!!!)
