Traditionally, as we approach the end of one year and the beginning of a new year we find ourselves reflecting on our goals and accomplishments, We also look at what areas we can improve upon, and make plans to do just that. We often resolve to change, make more of our future, and give up old habits. We promise to construct some changes to make things better for ourselves. Though, any time old patterns become uncomfortable can become the time we decide to create a positive change, and growth. The focus may be on personal health issues such as weight control and stopping smoking, or other ways of making life better, like having the family together for dinner more than just a couple of nights a week, to not get so stressed out while driving, or to finally save some money just to be used for an emergency a beginning to fiscal well-being. Unfortunately, by publishing time of this article many people have already given up, but it doesn't have to be that way.

These familiar resolutions are really transitions. And, transitioning into a new lifestyle or behavior successfully requires some planning and self-reflection. When we choose to make such a transition, we need to give up our old definitions of the world, our old ways of doing things, and we find ourselves challenged by the process of 'letting go'. Endings are difficult for most people, even when we are unhappy with the way things used to be because we are more comfortable with what is familiar. The unknown can cause uneasy feelings. Once we let go, however, we enter a period of feeling disconnected from the past but not yet connected to the present this has been called the neutral zone. This is when we can benefit from much self-reflection, and assess what we really want out of life. It is also a time when we can reorient ourselves toward the future and really embrace the new personal growth and having a qualified professional guiding and helping you through the process can help you to achieve the personal growth that you desire. Please feel free to call and have a private discussion about your situation.

Cynthia Lindner, MS
phone: 631 473-0405
email: info@clinicalhypnotism.com
http://clinicalhypnotism.com

Creating Your 2011 New Year's Resolution Recipe for Success by Lee Cirillo Fitness Together Port Jefferson

It's that time of year again when many of us make New Year's resolutions to improve our health and well-being. Unfortunately, we often have a tough time sticking to our goals, and by the time Valentine's Day rolls around, our best-laid plans may have gone by the wayside. That's why now is the time to create your recipe for New Year's resolution success.

According to the dictionary, a 'resolution' means both a firm decision and a firmness of purpose, or determination. The decision part of the resolution equation should be planned out carefully. Here are five tried and true tips for New Year's resolution success that incorporate both decision and determination:

1. Set attainable goals. The biggest mistake people usually make in outlining their New Year's resolutions is to set unattainable goals. Try to set achievable goals so that you're ensured of success. It's important to understand that big changes come from a combination of many small changes over time. Instead of making a New Year's resolution to lose 30 pounds (and you haven't been at that goal weight since high school), why not set a goal to lose 5 pounds by Valentine's Day?

2. Get support from a personal trainer. Change is always easier to accomplish when another person is cheering you on. Two heads are better than one when it comes to making decisions and the determination to complete your goals. Share your resolution verbally with someone you trust. Talk about your plans with another person and review them often, together. A verbal commitment can help people cement a firm decision in their mind.

3. Plan ahead and outline a schedule for getting you to your goal. Tracking your progress is extremely helpful for keeping you on target. It also allows your support person or trainer to help you more efficiently. And don't forget to reward yourself with small gifts for succeeding with your weekly 'mini-goals.'

4. Never strive for perfection. Everyone has a temporary blip where they fall off the horse occasionally, especially under times of duress. Lapses are an important part of the process of making successful permanent changes. Share these temporary setbacks with your trainer and it will ultimately help you to strengthen your resolve.

5. Visualize yourself after you've attained your goals. Visualization can be a strong motivational tool for many people, particularly when they 'see' the positive rewards of making those behavioral changes.

You can achieve your goals with the help of Fitness Together. A Harvard School of Public Health study found that people who are generally hopeful were less likely to develop hypertension, diabetes, or respiratory tract infection than those who were less hopeful.

Tips for Creating Happiness:

First give yourself permission to be human. Accepting emotions such as fear, sadness, or anxiety as natural, Helps us to be more likely to overcome them. Rejecting our emotions, wether positive or negative, can lead to feelings of frustration and unhappiness.

Become involved in activities that are both personally significant and enjoyable. When this is not practical, make sure you have happiness boosters, such as moments throughout the week that provide you with both pleasure and meaning.

Keep in mind that happiness is mostly dependent on our state of mind, not on our status or the state of our bank account. Barring extreme circumstances, our level of well being is determined by what we choose to focus on (the full or the empty part of the glass) and by our interpretation of external events. For example, do we view failure as catastrophic, or do we see it as a learning opportunity?

K.I.S.S. (Keep It Super Simple) Simplify your life! We have become a culture that is too busy, by trying to squeeze in more and more activities into less and less available time. Quantity influences quality, and we compromise on our happiness by doing too much.

Remember the mind-body connection. What we do (or don't do) with our bodies influences our mind.

Get regular exercise, restorative sleep, and be mindful about eating healthfully.

Using healthy relaxation such as guided imagery or meditation lead to both physical and mental health.

Finally express gratitude, whenever possible. We too often take our lives and experiences for granted. Learn to appreciate and savor the wonderful things in life, from people to food, from nature to a smile.
name: Frank Lindner, MS, LMHC
phone: (631) 473-0405
email: frank@clinicalhypnotism.com
http://portjeffcounseling.com

Walk... The old wives tale says that we are born 'simple' with basic needs of food, love, shelter--but I don't know if I believe that. I think I was born complicated. When I was eight, I wanted my mother to explain to me what the purpose of life was. I came into this world complicated - and I have remained complicated - until recently.

When the simplicity movement burst on the scene a decades or so ago, I'll be honest--I laughed. I thought simplicity was for people who 'couldn't keep up with life. or those that REALLY loved Birkenstock shoes. I didn't realize then, as I do now, that simplicity was for people who wanted a better way to live. I, like many of us, had bought in to the hype that the more I had, the more I did, the more I squeezed into a day - the richer my life would be. When I read about the simplicity movement, the thought of 'giving something up' made my stomach churn. I had worked so hard to amass and acquire - why would I want to give it up? It wasn't until recently that I learned that happiness and true joy aren't discovered in the fast lane. You might find exhilaration and excitement that propels you forward - but you won't find the joy, happiness, contentment and peace we all so desperately crave.

'The problem with the rat race is
that even if you win... you're still a rat.'
Lily Tomlin

The idea of scaling back and letting go scared me. What if I missed something? I liked being at the 'head of the pack' because I believed I had the best view. What I learned was that I could see in front of me - I could see what was coming, but I couldn't see or enjoy what was happening in the moment.

As I looked deeper and confronted my own fears about the simple life, I realized simplicity didn\'t require living in a tee pee, getting rid of electricity and eating food I had grown and cultivated by hand (although for some people simplicity might involve those things)... simplicity meant deciding that I would run my life, getting off the treadmill, living consciously and deliberately-- making decisions that brought joy. Simplicity means trading in 'busyness' for meaning, trading in confusion for clarity, trading in the 'rat costume' for personal peace. Simplicity is about spending less time chasing and more time enjoying. It is about spending less time acquiring and more time experiencing. Simplicity is about spending less time managing life and more time living it. Getting off the treadmill isn't easy. We have to combat the many messages we see and hear every day and learn to believe and trust ourselves. Instead of 'buying-in' to our commercial culture, we 'opt-out' and forge our own path. The reward for those who accept the challenge is great. Instead of living a life on autopilot, you live a life designed by clear decisions that align with what brings you and those important to you, true joy.

Eileen Koff CPO
Certified professional organizer
631-553-0068
Excerpts by Brook Noel
name: Eileen Koff
phone: 631-553-0068
email: eileen@tothenextlevel.net
www.tothenextlevel.net

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://3vp.blogspot.com/2011/03/walk-dont-run-towards-simplicity-by.html' title='Walk... Decrease Your Pain by Using Your Brain. The program begins 7:30. Further programs in the series will offer additional ways of developing the mind's ability to alleviate physical pain.

The program is free at the clinic, located at 2500 Nesconset Hwy, 22B in The Stony Brook Medical Park.

Mr. Marino, a Certified Functional Manual Therapist with a master's degree in physical therapy, will offer strategies, both physical and mental, for coping with acute and chronic pain after an injury.

You can improve your emotional state by changing your focus from negative aspects of your life, perhaps those associated with a physical condition, to positive ones, said Mr. Marino, founder of North Island Physical Therapy, and one of only about 150 Certified Functional Manual Therapists in the country. "It's about mental focus. You can make feeling good and being well the norm, not the exception."

He added. "With chronic pain, our mind focuses on pain and we see ourselves as connected with that pain," Mr. Marino said. "Feeling pain becomes normal. The good news is we can reverse this process. We can raise our level of awareness and focus on what we choose."

The mind-body approach reflects Mr. Marino's personal philosophy, following a severe car accident 15 years ago that left him in chronic pain. Recovering from a lumbar spine fracture, a serious head wound and multiple fractures, he supplemented the physical therapy he was receiving with a series of unique mental and physical exercises of his own devising.
" 'Thinking Your Way to Wellness' reflects the mind-body connection that has allowed me to live a pain-free life," Mr. Marino said. "Others can too. The fact is, many people tolerate a level of chronic pain unnecessarily."

Other lectures in the series include 'Time Concepts & Wellness' ,Thursday, April 28; and 'Leverage for Life, Tuesday, May 24.

All events are free and held at the clinic, beginning 7:30. Seating is limited, advance registration is recommended. By looking at the popular songs of the past -- the ballads, love songs, suffrage anthems, work songs and dance tunes -- we can trace the perceptions and realities of women's lives. The music of the day shows the role of women in 18th and 19th century American society. Accompanying herself on mountain and hammered dulcimers, pennywhistle, guitar and limberjack, Linda Russell explores the images in the songs, interspersing the music with lively commentary that includes excerpts from diaries and letters in which the women tell their stories in their own words

cost: free-advance reservation required
time: 2:00 pm
location: Mills Pond House -Directions to Mills Pond House parking entrance
We are two miles North of Smithhaven Mall, Moriches Road to Mills Pond Rd.
GPS Flowerfield 199 Mills Pond Road, St. James, NY Our driveway is directly across from the Flowerfields entrance with two white pillars.
organization: Smithtown Township Arts Council
contact: Allison Cruz phone: 631-862-6575 email: exhibits@stacarts.org web: www.stacarts.org

Visit Smithtown Township Arts Council on

ThreeVillagePeople.com
March 30
Unveiling the Mysteries of Medicine

WMHO Educational & Cultural Center An unprecedented and extraordinary series begins with renowned representatives in the field of medicine. It wasn't until that moment that I realized I had had a problem. It was so liberating. I had been "stuck" and hadn't even known it. Looking behind me, I felt amazingly liberated. I could fully rotate my head without pain. Not like in the exorcist mind you, but enough that I had a clear view of what was behind me. Occasionally, it's good to see what's behind us, especially when driving!

So what brought about this amazing change? I had just had a "raindrop therapy treatment" with Bonnie Taub of Harmonized Health It was a relaxing, incredible experience which combined unique massage techniques with many essential oils. This treatment has multiple benefits, as I learned first hand. Ironically, I did not seek Bonnie out because of the trouble with my neck, rather to alleviate pain from a nasty fall I'd recently taken. I knew from experience that Bonnie has a special expertise. Earlier this year when I had a bad bout of pneumonia, I was unable to shake the lingering cough, even months later. Honestly, one treatment with Bonnie, and the last remnants of the illness disapated. It was amazing.

This time, when I ended up in a heap on the floor in my hall, limbs tangled all around me, I knew Bonnie could help. She has a unique expertise that targets specific problems as well as giving a general sense of well being. I always leave her office feeling mentally and physically better. Thank you Bonnie.!!!

You can meet Bonnie at our next ThreeVillagePeople.com networking event at Pentimentos on July 27th.

April Showers

Where, exactly, did April go? It was a blur of holidays, rain and school vacations. But all this rain has resulted in a riot of beautiful colors and scents. Good and bad, I suppose, in that allergies are at an all time high. But I'll take the occasional sneeze anytime. I just love spring! It's my favorite season. I think it's because I feel like "I've done my time" and now deserve the reward of warm weather, sunlight, and blooming trees. I also like that its not too hot yet, and all the nice months of beach days and school vacation lay in front of us. Fall is temperate, but the looming winter prevents me from enjoying it.

So what's going on in our little online village? Lots actually. Wendy is busy working away at a new page that is going to blow every one's socks off. Plus we have a new calendar that has received such and amazing response, I think because Wendy is a wizard when it comes to making ordinary information look beautiful. We also have new features available with easy online payment. You can attach coupons to the calendar now for a small fee. It's a great thing, especially considering you are reaching such a wide audience (over 3500 people).

We have lots of new members joining. Greg from Sunrise Assisted Living called me today and offered a beautiful room for our members to use if they need it. He's a brand new member and already getting in the spirit of ThreeVillagePeople.com It's a wonderful thing.

Find out why are little community is drawing so much attention. They succinctly put into words the passing of time, the passing of generations, the passing of human emotions. Every March, the lyrics of "Here Comes the Sun" ring true. And those of usso lucky to live on this little parcel of Island have so much to look forward to.

For me, I have been raging a battle with my lungs for six weeka; flu, asthma, pneumonia. I have just about had it with the cold and the winter bugs. But I know spring is coming, I see the 200 tulip bulbs I planted peaking up through the hard ground and I am filled with hope.

I passed the Setauket Pond yesterday and looked at it longingly. "I'll be there soon to have a picnic by your bank" I thought I heard myself say. I daydreamed of the swans that are so beautiful (but honestly a little nasty) that come up on the beach down by the Setauket boat ramp. I love them in spite of their barking orders at me (not unlike my dear friend Lisa). I pine for Friday night pizza at West Meadow beach with my neighbors from Spaulding Lane, watching the orange ball of fire sink into the Sound. What a beautiful place we live. All the seasons are lovely in their own way.....but "here comes the sun" The best time to live on Long Island...and boy does that make me happy.

Enjoy!!!

“Stage Door Canteen”

Relive the Big Band Era at “Stage Door Canteen”

Benefit Premiere Performance March 16

Stony Brook, NY – The Ward Melville Heritage Organization will present “Stage Door Canteen,” interactive musical performances in a lively WWII canteen setting, at their Educational & Cultural Center in Stony Brook Village, a St. George Production. Special guests include the likes of “Martha Raye” and “Frances Langford” and visitors are sure to enjoy this journey back to an era when big band was king.

The performances will salute the fascinating life of pioneer Toni Frissell (1907-1988), who was the first woman war photographer and the first woman on the staff of Sports Illustrated. Remembered for her high-fashion photography forVogue and Harper's Bazaar, she also volunteered her photographic services to the American Red Cross, Women's Army Corps and Eighth Army Air Force during WWII. It's the second most unattractive month for women... (hang on ladies, because February is #1). It's bleak, cold, and unless you hop on a plane, no beach or pool time. In my book, the only redeeming quality about January is that some of my favorite people are born in the first month of the year (including me:).

I must say though, I have had a very upbeat feeling this midwinter. Life is good. Even still, stress abounds and it abounded it's way right into my neck and back! Add on top of that my New Years efforts to get in shape, and my whole body was aching. So, when my son asked me what I wanted for my birthday a few weeks ago...I did not hesitate. I wanted a massage. Christmas had left me with a new snuggie and pj's all I needed was a relaxed body to snuggle into them. So when I saw that Physical Therapy and Beyond was having an amazing special, I knew it was time to cash in my gift.

I love visiting our villagers from the site, and using their great services. I have never been to Physical Therapy and Beyond before, and was totally impressed with the cleanliness, atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. On top of all that, after an hour with Christina, I was literally floating off the table. Within the first few minutes the anxious stress knot in my chest dissolved, and my pains seemed to melt away. My mood improved. Boy, this was just what I needed. I love massages and Christina was amazing. She combined various techniques including deep tissue, amma therapy, accupressure while using scented oils with calming music in the background. It all did the trick to bring me down from my super keyed up state. What a great way to take the edge off the winter blues.

Valentines Day is coming up, and if anyone is wondering what to get this hardworking roving reporter, feel free to stop in at Physical Therapy and Beyond.....ok....it doesn't have to be for me... it makes a great gift for ANYONE!!! Keep an eye on our Calendar for special promotions from PT and Beyond as well as all our great villagers.

Off to bed...I have a feeling I will have a peaceful, calm sleep tonight. Thanks Christina!!!!

What's your resolution?

I don't know, but for some reason this year I have very concrete resolutions that I want to stick with. Many of them have to do with cleaning up; my diet, my house, my garage, my paperwork....and lightening up; my weight, my mind, and spirit. I wonder why I feel so motivated this year?.....perhaps it's because I have one year till 50 and I feel like I need to get a move on.

What New Year's resolutions are in your heart? Will you keep them? Are you committed? In many ways, it's simply just time for a change. Many years ago, I worked for a now defunct mortgage company, and they were just unscrupulously dreadful. In spite of a very bad job market, and a new co-op mortgage, I had to leave. It made me sick knowing how they exploited people. So really, although I am the sentimental type I can be unbiased. The truth is that Wendy Martin conceived and built this beautifully visual site that conveys values of a past era that draws to it kind, wonderful people. It's pretty much as simple as that. And the people who come try to help and support each other. Networking nights are filled with whom I now consider friends, and light hearted laughter. It's a great place, a great concept and there is simply nothing else like it.

I have grown attached to the people in this online fictitious village. A transplant from Queens, this group has given me a great sense of belonging. John from Arbor Vista Tree Service came and trimmed up my whole property last week. I trusted him. He did a great job for a great price. Now I know, one less worry for me. John knows his trees. So I told him "John...once a year, come, tell me what I need and do it." I live in a veritable forest, I have no clue what needs what done to it. Having people who are experts in their field, and whom I trust make my life easier.

Scott Heaney is my insurance man. I like having an insurance man. It makes me feel like I live in Mayberry, or Green Acres or something. My son is thinking about buying his first car (way prematurely of course). With visions of Challenger's and Camaro's I told him "you better call up Scott and get advice, because the car you buy can really effect your insurance." He's fifteen, so I'll be the one to call Scott, but I know Scott won't steer me wrong. I called Scott last week at dinner time when a gardener cut his arm open in my yard and had to go to the ER. He calmed my hysteria. I am probably not the easiest client for him, but having people like this in my life is very comforting to me. Life is stressful. Have you noticed? Knowing the right people, great people, make it easier.

Today, I got a call from the son of our famous Nelly. You've probably met her at Networking Night, and if you sampled her cookies, you will never forget them. If you've had a conversation, you will never forget her. She is pure positive joy. Nelly has become a friend, as have so many of our villager's. She tutors my son in Spanish, feeds us dinner and sends Jake cookies when he needs cheering. Nelly is special. So when her son called me early this morning, I knew it probably was not so good. I don't really know what it is yet, but given her faith, determination and tenacity, I will have to assume she will be OK. As of this afternoon she was in SBU Hospital.
I ask that everyone reading this do whatever you do; pray, keep a good thought, eat a cookie (although I can guarantee you it won't be as good as hers:) Send good thoughts her way.

These are some the villager's - with stories, and personalities. No talking geckos or other gimmicks....just real people. Great people. Remember, in the end, we are all in this together. Wendy, thanks for creating "a place" for us to be and to find each other.

See you all at Networking Night, November 4th

Become part of the village!

Middle Country Women's Expo

Tomorrow, Thursday, Wendy and I will make our annual trip to the Women's Expo at the Middle Country Library. That's us too!!

ThreeVillagePeople.com started out as a place for local small businesses and artisans to affordably showcase/advertise their work. It was an idea that was actually ahead of it's time. Since it's inception, there has been a dramatic shift in the economic climate of the country which has made this concept all the more appealing.

Keeping commerce in our local community is good for all of us. Our "villagers" have embraced this idea in a big way. People tell me all the time that when they need a carpenter, gift, arborist, massage therapist or gynechologist, they always consult http://www.threevillagepeople.com
You will observe at our Networking Nights, a commraderie like no other. Everyone is supporting eachother and cheering one another on. Anyone's individual success is an achievement for us all.

In allignment with this idea, we ourselves are a local business. As more and more websites pop up touting locality, they are often national conglomerates or companies not even in our own state. However, internet websites can be local businesses as well. That's us!! So when you are considering where to put your advertising dollars, remember we are part of your community.
Come be part of our village~!!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://3vp.blogspot.com/2009/09/support-your-local-businesses-thats-us.html' title='Support your local businesses!! Both kids and parents are out and about and having a set meal time becomes more difficult. You find yourself nibbling at whatever is available. The important thing to do is Plan Ahead:
Buy fresh fruit and vegetables to cut up and store in the refrigerator for easy snacking and finger foods for kids.
Steer clear of buying packaged snacks with added sugars, fats and calories.
Serve cold foods in the summer. Smoothies are real quick and easy to make and nutritious too. Smoothie ice pops are a great treat! What a drag! How'd this happen so quick? It seems only yesterday that I was using my big sisters baptismal certificate to get into a bar (the drinking age was 18 so don't even ask how old I was...and thank god my kids don't read this blog LOL). Fast forward 3 decades and boom...sneaking into bars has been replaced with sneaking a nap in the afternoon. Oh brother!!!

Anyway, one of the bar-b-que guests starts talking about how she was having horrible peri menopausal symptoms with no relief from numerous doctors. She felt horrible and was so frustrated. Even her family started thinking that it was all in her head....but she didn't give up on herself....she started researching and found professionals who used natural methods to ease her discomfort. She was raving about her nutritionist who she loved and said helped to bring her life back to normal. I never heard anyone talk so passionately about their nutritionist. Who could this magician/wonder woman be? Our very own Barbara Ann Grova!!!

Well last week, a friend of mine called with complaints of "mid life" ailments. I immediately knew where to send her. Ladies, this is some very valuable information. When menopausal symptoms hit you like a ton of bricks....make sure you have this contact info ready. Combining knowledge and professionalism with kindness and understanding, Barbara Ann Grova is just what we need, just when we need it. Visit her page to learn more!
Visit threevillagepeople.com

Summer Fun from Ireland and Gannon

We may all have different definitions of ‘summer fun’ but few would choose weeding and fighting bugs in the garden as their first pick. So how do you make your landscape a summer haven instead of a summer job? Well the team of designers and installers at Ireland Gannon Associates has some suggestions. The best way to make your garden lower maintenance is by choosing your plants that you put in wisely. This concept of ‘the right plant, right place’ means choosing plants based on their cultural requirements (sun, water, hardiness and nutrients) and their natural growth habit so you don’t have to constantly be fighting to keep them alive or prune them to prevent them from taking over. Picking reliable, proven plants and planting them properly will mean less work down the road. For that reason Ireland Gannon has more N.Y.S. Certified Nursery/Landscape Professionals on staff then any company in the state, so their experts can help you design and install that ‘carefree’ garden. Having your beds mulched in the beginning of the season will help control weeds in the summer and keep the soil cool and moist in those hot summer months, and is another way to keep your maintenance down and your garden healthy.

And for maximum summer enjoyment, have the design team at Ireland Gannon create a summer retreat area complete with patio, seating, and shade trellis. (A pool never hurts either.) Enjoy your summer!

Visit Ireland and Gannon

and don't forget to check threevillagepeople.com for new content weekly

Strange Times

Is it me or has this been a really odd intro to summer? First of all, with all this rain, it's amazing that I haven't turned into a prune. Humid weather is not good for my looks.....my hair is frizzy, my skin is sallow and my mood is marginal. It just doesn't quite feel like summer. It seems we got jipped out of Spring with one of the rainiest Junes in over a century.

Then, we had that onslaught of celebrity deaths. Having all those 70's icons pass away within days of each other was just too sad. I remember hearing Ed McMahon's voice on the Tonight show filtering in from my mom's room when I was too young to even stay up that late. The Jackson Five (as well as the Partridge family) inspired the Zodiac Four, a little known singing group of that time period as well. Little known because it consisted of my sister Mary, our two friends down the block, and myself. We had no instruments and sang along with records, which theoretically is lipsinking except that we just drowned the singers out....and dazzled them with our Farrah Fawcett hairdo's. Boy oh boy...those were the days. Before Xbox's and cell phones, ipods and Facebook. Nice simple times. Good memories. And I am reasonably sure it wasn't raining non stop:)

Hope everyone has a safe, happy and SUNNY Fourth of July!!

threevillagepeople.com

Networking Night

Well our last Networking Night before the summer vacation is coming up on June 16th.
It's funny when this all first started at our ribbon cutting ceremony, at then Patty Buchanan's, who knew what it would evolve into? We had never really planned to do steady networking, but people seemed to really enjoy it and asked us to do more, so we did.

Here almost three years later, we are still at it, and having a ball. Each night is a little different. One night we had a fashion show from The Sweetleaf Boutique
That was a lot of fun. Before Mother's Day we had some of our villagers selling their wares. Our last one featured a talk from Bruce Chamoff of Hot Web Ideas about blogging twittering and increasing traffic to your own site. It's quite an eclectic group of people, ideas, and themes. Makes for a really fun, interesting and productive night.

The funniest thing is that I have grown so attached to all my "villagers;" Nelly, the famous cookie maker who called when I had the flu and wanted to bring me home made chicken soup. Scott Heaney from The Mill Creek Agency who was always happy to answer my insurance questions, even though he wasn't my broker (he is now though:). Dr. Gregory from Carriage House Chiropractic who I ran into at Target and helped me pick out a gift for my son. It sounds so hokey but it really is like an old time village or a modern internet family. I think it's just the greatest thing.

Anyway, come to Networking Night...and you will see what I mean.

Cheers
Make sure to visit Three Village People .com
http://www.threevillagepeople.com

Congratulations to Steven Pagartanis!!!

STEVEN PAGARTANIS HONORED AS TOP ADVISOR
Steven Pagartanis of Omega Planning Associates was honored as a 2008 top advisor of Cadaret, Grant & Co., Inc. The whole swine flu thing. Now it seems that the whole topic has gotten relegated to silly emails joking about not eating pork, or making a play on words. Two weeks ago however, drug stores were running out of face masks and tamaflu. What power the media has! And we are so hooked in. It used to be that just the TV news was bad enough to spark hysteria. Now they come at us from all angles; the internet, radio, tv, word of mouth, texting, you name it. You can run but you can't hide.

Although information certainly is power, some days, don't you wish you knew just a little bit less? I don't need to know about every murder or possible catastrophe that might strike. It's unnerving to me. Sometimes it gets quite hard to shut it all out.

Don't you wish it was back in the old days when you would go off on your bike hearing your mothers voice in the distance saying "be home in time for dinner!" and the only distraction you had was swatting at bugs and keeping up with your friends on their bikes? Turn off the TV and sit on your porch tonight. Listen to the rain, hug your kids and drown out all the noise with peace and calm. It's all OK:)

Swine Flu

I am just getting over some weird upper respiratory thing, but will write soon about my take on the swine flu.
Also have been thinking about how we are at the mercy of insurance companies...something else I want to discuss.
Stay tuned...I've got lots on my mind!!
Visit us
http://www.threevillagepeople.com

Spring gets skipped!

Nice weather just in time for Earth Day (yesterday) and Arbor Day(today). Tomorrow is going to be summer weather in the 80's. Now I am not complaining...(well I am, a little, mostly because my legs are just not ready for shorts....a pasty gray color that one can only obtain from a winter in the Northeast). OK so what's the deal?...every year we go straight from Winter coats to shorts. What happened to Spring? It has become elusive.

I want to savor the Spring; marvel as my environment turns from gray and dismal to a cacophony of colors and vibrance. I'm not ready for summer. I love the summer....but part of the joy of spring is that it ALL lays before us; spring in all it's glory, followed by summer vacation, warm nights and sprinklers showering dry lawns, sprinkled with the laughter of children.

I guess this is all a metaphor of sorts. Life moves too fast. My poodle is turning gray, my boy is becoming a man, and I too am changing at break neck speed. But I am wiser too. And in my wisdom I realize that we have to savor each season, each phase, each era. Now is all we have....the precious present. Seize the moment. Enjoy. It's going to be 86 degrees tomorrow...I better go tan those legs.;-)

Visit us at
http://www.threevillagepeople.com/

Back in the Garden Again!!

Great day to get in the garden and finish cleaning up...plant some new stuff. I lay there thinking in anticipation of being out in the sun. I didn't want to waste one moment inside. But then as I lay there, aches and pains from my week attempting to get back into a workout routine began creeping up on me.

Hmmm
......suddenly I thought....it's Friday...time to see Dr. Henri of Power On Chiropractic and Nutrition That was definitely worth going indoors for. I've been seeing Dr. Henri since October when I was suffering from asthmatic bronchitis, something I battle with every winter from October straight through to April.

I have seen such an improvement in my health since I started getting adjusted, that although I have always believed in the power of chiropractic, I have never had such dramatic results before; even my chronic insomnia has improved. The immediate pain relief is such an incentive, I actually look forward to keeping my appointments.

So now I am less achy and all ready to enjoy the sun and Power On!!

Visit us!
http://www.threevillagepeople.com

Hope for the future....

I think back to when house prices were soaring, jobs were abundant, and the world seemed to be riding high. Little did we all know that behind the scenes there were situations that would lead to our collective unraveling. Who would have believed that a relatively safe investment in a boring old insurance company would end up being a disastrous choice or that our banking system would be in trouble, our planet in peril? So many variables that we never considered reared their ugly heads. How could we have known? How could we have not known? Scheming greed, glutinous hunger for power and money were covertly fueling a scenario that would take us to the pinnacle of crisis.

But with crisis also comes opportunity. So now, while spirits are down, and people are reviewing these occurrences feeling jaded and discouraged, I wonder if the opposite will hold true. It is my hope that this is the reality; that behind the scenes people are trying to live with greater integrity and honor. Perhaps people are taking stock of what they do have; family, health, faith, a deepened sense of community, and finding out what it is that they truly value. It could very well be possible that we are all learning to feel more compassion for one another, to be more charitable, to consider the planet above our wallets. An underground movement towards good....towards peace.....if it happened one way...then the opposite can be true as well......this is my hope.

Visit us!
http://www.threevillagepeople.com

Shopping is so sweet....at Sweetleaf Boutique

A gray, damp, rainy Saturday.....I actually would have liked to hunker down at home, but I had Easter errands to run; last minute gifts for the nieces:) Starbucks in East Setauket was my destination. As always, I scan my mental to do list for other errands that need tending to in that neck of the woods. I had a book on hold at the library that was ready for pick-up and I wanted to stop in at the new location for the SweetLeaf Boutique for a top to wear with a suit for Easter dinner in Manhattan. Well I stepped into Sweetleaf Boutique greeted by Kelly, one of the family members who owns and runs this little gem nestled in the Mario's shopping center. (OK...let's not get into the whole Mario's thing....that's another post....the bar at Mario's is an oasis where delicious foods magically appear on the bar at just about midnight when I am definitely due for a snack. Yes, I love Mario's)
Anyway, I just wanted to take a quick look for a small purchase. I don't quite exactly know what happened, but suddenly I was in a fitting room with a scrumptious array of tops, dresses, jeans, and capris. Kelly picked out things I would have never chosen, that were flattering and affordable. I can't actually remember ever having so much fun shopping. Let's face it, shopping can be depressing......or, in this case exhilarating!!! Two hours flew by (by now Kelly had to leave and I was on to pocketbooks with the help of Livia). By the time I left I walked out with a kicky echo friendly, brown reusable bag, Sweetleaf mints, a dress, capris that looked great without being a torture chamber, and a cute floral and blue purse..... all for the price of what just the dress might have cost. Who knew this great little shop was right at my fingertips all along? I am going back next week, and bringing a friend or two......Sweetleaf Boutique is too good to keep to myself.

Visit us at
http://www.threevillagepeople.com

Networking Night

What a wonderful night we had on April 2nd at the Three Village Inn. I don't know what it is, perhaps it is the beautifully visual website that local graphic artist Wendy Martin has built, but threevillagepeople.com attracts particularly nice people. We always have a fun, warm group and it feels more like a night out socializing than "working"....but it's always very productive as well Looking forward to the next one on May 12th
(also looking forward to some WARMER weather!!!)
Visit us
http://www.threevillagepeople.com

Beginners Blog

This is new for us.
